WATER POLLUTION
Harmful contamination of anything in the environment is called pollution. Water is a vital element of our environment. Water pollution means the contamination of surface and drinking waters that is harmful to use. There are many reasons behind water pollution. Firstly, man pollutes water by throwing waste into it. Secondly, farmers use chemical fertilizers and insecticides in their fields. When rainwater and floods wash away some of these chemicals, they get mixed with water in rivers, canals, and ponds and pollute water. Moreover, mills and factories also throw their poisonous chemicals and waste products into rivers and canals and thus pollute water. Water vehicles also pollute rivers by dumping oil, food waste, and human waste into them. Unsanitary latrines and unsafe drains standing on rivers and canal banks are also responsible for further water pollution. Dead bodies and rotten debris of animals and plants and germs of diseases also pollute water. Water pollution has a negative impact on our lives. It causes water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, skin diseases that lead us to death. Skin diseases cause cancer. It is true that complete prevention of water pollution is impossible but certainly we can minimize the extent of pollution. We have to create awareness among the people. We can refrain from throwing waste into the river or canal water. We can refrain from building insanitary latrines on the river and canal banks. People should also be made aware of the ways and means of keeping water pure and clean and not polluted. Thus we have to minimize water pollution.
