EARTHQUAKE

An earthquake is a natural disaster. It is a sudden release of energy in the earth's crust that creates seismic waves. Experts say that earthquake is caused by a rupture of geological faults. Volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, etc also can cause earthquakes. Earthquakes can be measured by a machine called a seismograph. A mild quake is less than 5 on the Richter scale. If the quake is 7 or more than 7, the damage on the earth's surface is dreadful. The surface area where the quake occurs undergoes serious changes. Buildings collapse and crumble within seconds. Those who are trapped are crushed to death. Rescue efforts at the moment fail because there is devastation all around. The news of the death toll continues to rise. The aftermath of the earthquake is no less terrible. Survivors who lose their dear and near ones suffer from traumas. They do not get any shelter, food, medicine, and other necessaries immediately after the quake. However, although there is almost no way for us to prevent this natural disaster, there are certainly ways to minimize the losses. We can take preventive measures by ensuring the earthquake resistance building code is compulsory prior to constructing a new building.
