A FARMER

A farmer is a person who does the work of farming. He has a little land that he cultivates with his own hands. But a farmer of our country does not have modern tools for cultivating. Still, he works with a pair of bullocks and a plow. Moreover, a farmer of Bangladesh is poor, illiterate, and does not know how to use the scientific methods of cultivation. As he is poor, he has not had enough money to buy modern tools for cultivation and uses a high-yielding variety of seeds, insecticides, and fertilizers. He always depends on fate and nature. As a result, he sometimes becomes the victim of natural calamities. Floods, cyclones, droughts, tidal bores frequently damage his crops. In that case, he takes loans at a very high rate of interest from the money lenders. If natural calamities repeatedly cause damage to his crops, a farmer cannot repay the loans. He is forced to sell his land. A farmer in Bangladesh works very hard but he does not get a good harvest. He always remains poor. Although a farmer works from dawn to dusk, he has to suffer from hardship. A farmer is born poor and passes away as a poor man. He cannot change his lot. If our government takes positive steps to provide him with seeds, fertilizers, insecticides, and interest-free loans, his condition may improve.
