NATURAL CALAMITIES IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is called a land of natural calamities because almost every year Bangladesh is affected by some kind of natural calamity. The common natural calamities in Bangladesh are floods, tidal surges, storms, hurricanes, and drought. But the most common calamity is flooding. Usually, floods occur during the monsoon. Bangladesh is a low-lying country. Excessive rainfall during the monsoon is one of the main causes of floods. In the southern part of the country, floods are often caused by the tidal bore. The impact of floods in Bangladesh is really very severe. Houses are washed away in low-lying areas. As the fields go underwater, the standing crops in the fields get damaged. Many pets and cattle are washed away. Sometimes the aftermath of a flood becomes more dangerous than the flood time itself. The price of daily necessaries rises high. Flood is often followed by severe famine. The flood-affected area becomes unhealthy and various kinds of diseases like cholera, diarrhea, malaria, etc. break out like an epidemic. In the same way, tidal surges and cyclones cause untold suffering to the people of Bangladesh. It is not possible to stop the natural calamities but certainly, it is possible to minimize the losses if we take enough precautionary measures.
